In Greek mythology, the Titans were the twelve children of Uranus (Sky) and Gaia (Earth) — six male, six female — who ruled the cosmos before the Olympian gods. They were the first divine generation, the elemental forces that shaped the primordial universe. They presided over a period the ancient Greeks called the Golden Age: a time of harmony, wisdom, and deep connection to the natural forces of the world.
The Titans were not brutes. They were not monsters. They were the architects of an older order — one that predated hierarchy, predated the rules that came with Zeus and the Olympians. Their power was not granted by any institution. It was elemental. It preceded every system that came after it.

Six of the twelve were women. They are called the Titanesses — Titanides in ancient Greek. And it is their domains, their roles, and their enduring presence that make this mythology so precisely aligned with the Titan mission.

When the old world fell, the Titanesses remained free
After ten years of war — the Titanomachy — Zeus and the Olympians defeated the Titans. The male Titans were imprisoned in Tartarus, the deepest pit of the underworld. But the Titanesses were not imprisoned. Ancient sources are explicit on this point: the female Titans remained free. More than that — several of them became the closest advisors and consorts of the new order, shaping the world that followed.

This is not a footnote. It is the central fact that makes the Titan name right for this organisation. The Titanesses were not destroyed by the fall of the old order. They adapted. They carried their wisdom from one world into the next. They retained their power through the transition — because their power was not institutional. It was intrinsic.
Senior women in European leadership today are living a version of this. The old infrastructure is failing. The DEI programmes are being cut. And yet the women themselves — their capability, their wisdom, their networks, their judgment — remain. The question is whether they have the architecture to channel that power forward.

WHY THEMIS IS AT THE HEART OF TITAN
Themis is the most direct mythological ancestor of what the T10 peer advisory circle is designed to be. Good counsel, given in confidence, by an equal who holds the scales. She passed the oracle to her granddaughter, and then to Apollo — not because it was taken from her, but because she gave it forward, freely."

Phoebe's act of passing the oracle forward is the distilled image of what Titan's senior women do for the generation behind them. Not giving away power — channelling it forward deliberately. Theia's domain is the external perspective — the capacity to see clearly, to illuminate what others cannot see from inside their own organisation, to identify what is genuinely valuable. Why Titan – and why now
The name was not chosen for its scale or its strength, though both are implicit. It was chosen for what the Titans represent in European cultural memory: the generation that held power before the rules, that carried wisdom across the transition from one world to the next, that could not be fully contained by any institution because their power was not institutional. It was elemental.
It was also chosen because it is specifically European. The founding myths of Western civilisation — including this one — are European in origin, rooted in the Greek tradition that shaped the philosophical and political inheritance of the continent.
Europe is entering a defining decade – consciously asserting its sovereignty, its values, and its distinctive place in the world. The decisions being made today will shape the future of our economies, our institutions, our industries, our communities, and the generations that follow.
The challenges are complex. The stakes are high. And the leadership required to navigate them has never been more important.
Yet too many women continue to lead without the trusted peer relationships, support systems, and leadership infrastructure that help leaders thrive over the long term.
